Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ's
  • Q.
What's the bottom-line, how much will your service cost me?
  • A.
You pay only the flat rate of $99.00. This price includes shipping, labor, diagnostics, and insurance at no additional charge. Your computer may needs parts to complete the repair. So that you can have an idea if parts are going to be needed to repair your laptop, we offer an exclusive online parts estimator. During the checkout process, you will be asked a few simple questions and, from this information, we will give you a ballpark idea on parts. Of course, this system is not 100% accurate as only a physical diagnosis is. Once we receive your laptop we perform diagnostics on it that same day and call you with the price of the part. In most cases the the online estimate is surprisingly accurate to the physical inspection.
  • Q.
How long does it take to get my laptop serviced and returned to me?
  • A.
Laptop service falls roughly into two categories: hardware and software. If the problem is hardware in nature, this may take longer than software issues based on the severity of the problem and parts availability. It is impossible to stock all parts for all laptops, however, we have a vast variety of inventory and stock the most commonly failed parts. Factoring in all scenarios with shipping time, the average time to return your laptop is between 3 to 5 business days, following your order.
  • Q.
Why not just buy a new laptop?
  • A.
The average person typically invests between $600.00 - $700.00 in his or her laptop. What's more, most people have files such as music, pictures, documents, email, and other important files that they wish to keep. That is, even if one were to purchase a new laptop, one would typically want one's data transferred to it. Considering our repair cost is only $99.00 this is only a fraction of the cost of a new laptop. Worst case scenario, it'll need parts. The average cost for replacement parts ranges between $50.00 - $100.00, this would still be only $189.00 - $239.00 to complete the repair. However, if your laptop is older than 8 years, buying new would be your best option. However, if it's a newer laptop (7 years old or less), the cheapest route would be to have it serviced.
  • Q.
What about sending my laptop to the manufacturer for repair?
  • A.
In general, sending your out-of-warranty laptop to the manufacturer is the most expensive way to have your laptop repaired. They are notorious for charging astronomical amounts for parts and labor. Also, they take between 3 - 4 weeks to return your laptop. In fact, we have several customers whose laptops are still under warranty send their laptops to us wishing to have them repaired more expeditiously.
  • Q.
Why not take my laptop to the “Geeks” for service?
  • A.
3 major reasons. First, they're overpriced. They charge an average of $220.00 for laptop repair, not including parts. Second, their turnaround time on laptops is usually 2 - 3 weeks. This is because all laptops are shipped from the store to a repair facility in another state where the actual repair is performed. Lastly, their technicians are typically under qualified to service laptops. This is because laptops require special knowledge in order to effectively diagnose and repair them. In fact, the most common complaint that we get from customers of the "Geeks" is that the "Geeks" misdiagnosed the true issue with their laptop, which is, unfortunately, always at the expense of the typical unsuspecting customer.
  • Q.
In general, how often are parts needed to repair a laptop?
  • A.
Roughly 20% need minor parts and 10% major parts (motherboard, lcd screen, etc.). 70% of problems are software related.
